Book Review
Contributing author: Kathy Ide Price: $12.99 (hard-cover gift book) To order: www.KathyIde.com Have you ever set your microwave's timer for one minute, then wished for a faster way to heat up a slice of pizza? Mothers today are greedy for more time. If we could buy and sell it on the stock exchange, it would be worth more than gold. Through laughter and sometimes tears, Rest Stops for Busy Moms challenges our claim that the reason we push ourselves so hard is for our children. Grab some tissue before reading the account of one little girl who stood in front of her mom's home-office door, blocking the entrance with her arms and legs, begging her mother to play. Same goes for the letter another woman wrote to her son as he graduated high school. Raising children is a temp job. Conversely, you may laugh until you cry at the mom who locked herself in the bathroom to avoid hearing one more singing vegetable. Even more as another woman describes finding jeep entrails in her refrigerator when her son rebuilt a used vehicle. And though you may have already learned the hard way to make sure raisins aren't wriggling before you eat them, it's always good to know you're not the only woman who has survived vacationing with sons. Rest Stops for Busy Moms steers us away from lusting after more time for ourselves as it gently chides us to look around at the little ones who follow behind--before it's too late. --Amber Ferguson |
