The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network Nanette Thorsen-Snipes God's Grace: Not an Easy Promise
By Rose Block (www.roseblock.com)
Published by Author House, 2006.

Edited by Nanette Thorsen-Snipes (www.nanettesnipes.com)

Description:
One spring evening in 2000, four-year-old Ashley Block rode her bike down a hill in her family's subdivision. When she lost control, her mother, Rose, turned pale. "Pull onto the grass, Ashley!" she shouted, but Ashley couldn't. At the bottom of the hill, she veered into the backside of a truck-full force. The impact threw her to the ground, causing a severe brain stem injury. The doctors didn't think Ashley would survive. God's Grace: Not an Easy Promise is the testimony of one woman's uncompromising faith in God, written partially through journal entries.

Editor's Comments:
Rose's faith was compelling. She offered God anything she had for His glory-even her family. As a relatively new editor, I wasn't prepared for the empathy I experienced. Tears-of sorrow and joy-bubbled up more than once as I edited her manuscript. I know my personal walk with God was enhanced just by working with Rose and reading her story. Rose's handwritten message in the front of my book, "I can't begin to thank you enough for the work you have done to make my words even more powerful," gave me a sense of accomplishment, and I could almost feel God smiling.

The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network Jeanette Morris Faithfulness-the Surprising Key to a Life of Joy and Meaning
By David Bruce Linn (www.davidbrucelinn.com)
Published by Xulon Press, 2007.

Edited by Jeanette Morris (www.firstimpressionswriting.com/)

Description:
A moving story of young love, heartache, friendship, and war entwined with 33 insightful Bible studies on walking with Christ through the battles of life. Each chapter is designed to leave you with joy in your heart, a tear in your eye, and a fresh sense of Christ's purpose for your life.

Editor's Comments:
By the fall of 2005, I wondered if I could bear the pain of any more losses: my 25-year career ended in April, my church of 15 years closed in August, and my sister's husband of 26 years died in an accident. Enter Pastor David Linn from Rochester, New York, and his book, Faithfulness- the Surprising Key to a Life of Joy and Meaning. Through his fictional story of Boxer and Patch, a solider and a nurse on the WWII front in rural Belgium, and the biblical applications to each chapter, God was indeed faithful to me. He encouraged me, edified me, and held me close while I wept at each poignant moment of promise and redemption...even after the third editing pass!

God knew I needed a fill-in pastor; He provided. God knew I needed to be useful; He provided. God knew that I needed to fend-off depression; He provided. Even before I started editing, Pastor Dave gave me the highest compliment I have ever received: "You have a well-formed Christian mind." Glory to God! In my weakness, Jesus could shine.

The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network Alice Benavides The Wall Street Traffic Light
By John K. Harris (www.thewallsteettrafficlight.com)
Published by Fidlar Doubleday, 2008.

Edited by Alice Benavides (e-mail Alice)

Description:
Dr. Harris has developed an effective strategy called the Wall Street Traffic Light to help investors know when to invest, when not to invest, and how to invest in the stock market. He has shown how historical patterns over a 72-year period, from 1935-2006, have repeated themselves with a high degree of consistency and work as a guide for even the novice investor.

Editor's Comments:
I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Dr. Harris. His note in the front of my book says, "I hope you enjoy my new book and find it to be useful in managing your retirement nest egg. For sure, I know it's a well edited book!"

The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network Marilyn Anderson Grandparenting a Child with Autism: A Search for Help and Hope
By Kate R. Thomas (www.katerthomas.angelfire.com/)
Published by Harmony House Publishers, 2006.

Edited by Marilyn A. Anderson (e-mail Marilyn)

Description:
The reader will come to know a caring grandmother who has poured her heart and soul into seeking assistance and information for her autistic granddaughter through this book. The author shares honestly her entire range of thoughts, feelings, and emotions from the initial diagnosis until the present time. The hope that exists for autistic children permeates this very moving story of Kate's own family experience.

Editor's Comments:
This book is absolutely invaluable, with its numerous encouraging and extensive resources, for anyone who lives or works with autistic children, such as grandparents, parents, family and church members, and friends. Kate was tireless and thorough in providing this information. I have never encountered a more complete reference on the subject. I was excited while editing the manuscript because I kept thinking how far-reaching its effects could be. The book has even helped me to better understand a similarly affected friend. I feel quite humbled, yet privileged, to have played even a small role in such a vital project.

The Christian PEN: Proofreaders and Editors Network Kathy Ide When the Heart Cries and When the Morning Comes (books one and two, Sisters of the Quilt series)

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER

Description:
Raised in an Old Order Amish family, 17-year-old Hannah Lapp wants nothing more than to break with custom and experience the outside world---so when her longtime Mennonite boyfriend proposes, she joyfully accepts! But will her choice damage her family forever? And when tragedy jeopardizes her upcoming marriage, can she cope without her community?

Editor's Comments:
Cindy was an absolute delight to work with. A sweet, wonderful, humble, faith-filled woman, this gal has become a dear friend to me. She has been extremely dedicated to the craft and to making her book the best it could be-and wow, did she succeed! Her first book in this series placed second in ACFW's Noble Theme contest, was a finalist in the 2007 ECPA Christian Book of the Year contest, quickly became a CBA best seller, and in February 2008 made the New York Times Best-Seller List! The sequel is well on its way to doing the same. Andrea Burns, a reviewer with Christian Book Previews, said of When the Heart Cries, "The story is very well written, and the fact that it is Woodsmall's first novel is surprising and difficult to believe." In an interview on Novel Journey, Cindy was asked, "What's the worst piece of writing advice you've ever received?" Her answer: "Freelance editors will steal your voice." That may be true of some. ... But Kathy Ide caused me to find my voice. Even now, if I can't find my voice, I return to her and ask, "What am I doing wrong in this chapter or scene?"
